Convergence 2008: A Personal Encounter With God This Weekend

Just after a month, I am back at Caliraya for the annual Influencers' International Convergence. This year's theme being INFLUENCING THE MARKETPLACE.

It has been quite a while since I had such a very personal encounter with God.

Just to share with you a highlight of my weekend. During commitment night, we were asked to reflect on the following facts/insights:

1. IS THERE A WAY TO MAKE AN IMPACT?
  • Did you know that only 3% of Christians worldwide will be working as vocational pastors, missionaries and religious workers while the rest of us will be working in the marketplace? Can you imagine what kind of impact we Christians can have if we can bring Christ to where we work?
  • Consider this thought: "What is the likelihood that your unbelieving officemate in the next cubicle - the one who curses your boss behind his back, pilfers supplies, and turns in half-done projects - will be able to talk to a pastor or a missionary this week, this month, or even this year? Not very likely, huh?
  • How much do you know about the people you work with? Do those around you feel that you, a Christian, can be counted on for a wise advice and prayers when their situations turn from discouraging to desperate? Do you make yourself available to minister to them, even in simple ways?
2. ME IN THE MARKETPLACE

Fox News in August 2006 featured a TV special entitled "Can Rick Warren Change The World?" It was about his attempt to form a global network of churches that will attack the world's 5 biggest problems: poverty, disease, illiteracy, spiritual emptiness and egocentric leadership.

Many were skeptical of his ambitious endeavor to change the world. Warren faced doubts and criticisms by saying that there are four words he wants written on his tombstone: "At least he tried." How about you? Even if you are not able to win your whole office to Christ, can it be said of you that at least you tried winning those who are seated 10 feet away from you?

Even before commitment night, a prayer has already been formed in my heart:

"Help me, Lord
to take on the challenge
of Acts 1:8 to heart.
I desire to to be Your witness
through what I proclaim with my mouth and
by the way I live my life.
I want to honor You, Father;
to represent you in a way
that will glorify Your Name."

Haven't we Net? and a free OMF book! :D

Feb 21, '08 9:13 PM

Attended last night the 3rd-Thursday-of-the-month gathering Influencers International - Makati last night at McDo Jaka Bldg along Ayala Ave.

The topic was "Have we Net?" which was a quick overview and guide to...guess what? Blogging! :D Even an Internet enthusiast like me learned new stuff and techniques!

It was very very informative, and enjoyable. The speaker, Aleks of OMF literature and of the blog http://aleksillyserious.wordpress.com/ was very funny and very committed in delivering his talk. Everybody in the audience was laughing at his antics! People learned new things the fun way. Kwela! I can't wait to hear him speak again.

I even won a book, courtesy of OMF of course for sharing my first ever Internet experience which was back in 1997, I think.

I can't wait to read the book! This would be one of my to do this 3-day weekend! It's the 20th anniversary edition of A Long Obedience in the Same direction by Eugene Peterson. I already took several browse on it, and it promises to be a good read.

I also met new friends! My new favorite sisters are Dr. Juliet and Ate Sharon! :D

Thanks Makati Influencers! :D Thanks Ate Juliet for inviting me! :D
